The site design incorporates one of Virginia’s disappearing population of barns, an american staple, and the new house references rural architecture.
Site walls and first floor of rustic field stone contrast the second storey’s white board & batten dormer walls and rafter tails.

The outside is clad in Pennsylvania field stone, so called because it was often gathered from farmers fields for use on farmhouses.

Floors are savaged from old fencing and other found objects like the repurposed work bench are used as a mudroom potters bench.

Simple but refined trim work and cabinetry are contrasted by rustic wood floors and timbers in the kitchen and entry hall.

The home utilizes unused stall timbers found inside the adjacent barn and other barns.

A cedar trunk exists as a column in the pool house.
